Nice weather continues to start this week with sun and highs into the 40's through Wednesday.
Beautiful weather this weekend. I took some turns on the mountain yesterday and it was amazing how cold it was in the parking lot and then how warm it was at 9,000 ft. with the inversions. The snow was nice and soft though and the sun was warm.
The temperatures so far this week have not been hitting the forecasted highs, with lows in the single digits, and highs in the 30's instead of 40's. We are still running 13 degrees below average for the month.
The really cold air is a thing of the past and we may not see temperatures like that again until next Winter. Highs have returned to their seasonal averages in the low 40's. That is softening up the snow in the afternoons and make for beautiful skiing weather.
It was -22 degrees this morning at 6 a.m. at the Truckee Airport. Not quite that cold but below zero here at the base of Squaw this morning as well. After 13 inches of snow Thursday through Saturday the conditions are soft and cold this morning.
Squaw Valley picked up another 5 inches on the mountain in the past 24 hours. That brings the 2 day storm total to a foot of snow.
We picked up 7 inches as of the 5 a.m. measurements and the snow is still falling.
A very cold airmass is about to blast in with the cold front tonight.
The North end of the lake only picked up a dusting yesterday as the system slid a bit West and South of the area.
Temperatures are warming up pretty quickly this morning ahead of the storm approaching the coast, especially in the higher elevations. We will see sun and then some clouds today with temperatures up into the 30's to near 40. It is going to be a beautiful day on the slopes except for winds up top increasing to 30 mph and gusts to 45.
