[Olympic Valley, Calif.] December 6, 2013 – Alpine Meadows is dropping lift ticket prices to $59 on Dec. 13 for opening day, with all lift ticket proceeds going to the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Foundation (SAF). The event, known as Ski Team Scholarship Day, helps support the non-profit foundation which is dedicated to helping local winter athletes pursue their dreams in the field of skiing or snowboarding.

“This is a great opportunity to celebrate Alpine’s opening day while skiing and riding for a good cause,” said Cara Whitley, chief marketing officer for Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. “We hope everyone takes this opportunity to enjoy the snow and help support a foundation that has a profound impact on local athletes.”

Season passes are valid for the event, but passholders are encouraged to make a donation to SAF. The discounted lift tickets are valid for opening day on Dec. 13 at Alpine Meadows only.

This season, SAF is awarding scholarships to 23 Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows athletes across multiple ski and snowboard disciplines. SAF is celebrating its first year as a foundation and looks forward to awarding more scholarships to kids and young adults in the community.

SAF is dedicated to supporting young amateur athletes who participate in competitive or non-competitive ski and snowboard teams at Squaw or Alpine. The foundation offers financial assistance to athletes who have a monetary need or have achieved a higher level of competition, which requires extensive travel and specialized training programs. SAF supports athletes in a variety of ski and snowboard disciplines.
