All Tahoe with three parts adventure and one part relaxation. The key ingredients are lots of friends and family, keep it casual, and get outside.
Memorial Day is the kick-off to summer as far as I’m concerned and I like to think that whatever I plan will help set the stage for the kind of summer I’d like to have. For me that’s being outside as much as possible, getting to do the summer sports I love, spending time with friends and family, and keeping it casual.
With those ingredients in mind this is my idea of a perfect Memorial Day weekend. This year there will be rafting on Memorial Day weekend on the Truckee River between Lake Tahoe and the River Ranch. Since that’s not always the case this weekend will start on the river. A float on the Truckee ends well by having drinks and food on the deck at the River Ranch. Maybe a campfire in the evening roasting marshmallows or just stargazing from one of the Lake Tahoe beaches will wrap it up.
Sunday is a mountain bike ride along the Rim Trail from Tahoe City to Brockway Summit (careful there is still some snow on the trail). There will be lots of rest stops and taking the time to enjoy summer emerging in the forest. There’s nothing better than beers and burgers after a ride and you can’t beat the Bridgetender in Tahoe City for that.
After two full days of action packed adventure and plenty of food I like to wrap the weekend up with a good hike. This year I’m thinking the Flume Trail is in order followed by an early dinner at the infamous T’s Rotisserie in Incline Village or Caliente in King’s Beach.
When I get back to work on Tuesday I love the feeling that I got plenty of exercise, got to hang with friends and family, and that I ate well. My mind and body will be recharged for a great week and the glorious summer to come.
