Have you Noticed? There Have Been Some Changes... / The Renaissance Continues

Submitted by jmegnin March 1, 2013 - 3:49pm General

Sometimes the word, “Renaissance” conjures images of Italy or the works of da Vinci and Michelangelo. But Squaw Valley has also recently experienced its own burst of advancements, which also paint a pretty formidable picture.

For starters, Squaw revamped its snowmaking efforts with the addition of new guns and system automation, so you don’t have to worry about the 300 days of sunshine we receive. (We’re not complaining.) The ski conditions are still excellent and top any Lake Tahoe snow report.

New fans guns and expanded snowmaking for the 2012-13 season

Squaw Valley also added three new chairlifts, to help you experience all of that wonderful snow. There’s the high-speed six-pack Big Blue Express, whisks passengers to Shirley Lake and Granite Chief quickly. The Mountain Meadow Triple is the perfect place for new skiers and riders to make their first turns, and the Park Pulley, allows beginner terrain park enthusiasts to lap the super fun cross course and mini pipe.

More advanced park fans can head to Mainline to enjoy the 22-foot Super Pipe! The Gold Coast Park also has some new features (which are multi-functional and useable for intermediate riders, too), and all are designed by Snow Park Technologies (SPT) the same folks who create the X-Games and Dew Tour courses! In other words, you can literally feel like a pro at Squaw Valley’s terrain parks. (If you’re not yet advanced and want to be, you can pick up skills at the new Burton Learn To Rider Center.)

To document it all, Squaw partnered with GoPro, and created a special three-part box feature in the Belmont terrain park, complete with on-mountain video. And if you wear your own camera, you can stop by Rocker@Squaw and enjoy the GoPro editing stations: Upload your footage onto one of two iMacs and edit your greatness, all while enjoying a cold beer and some tasty Buffalo Wings or Brisket Gravy Fries.

The Village has also seen its share of improvements and additions, including The Ledge Board Shop, the Squaw Valley Rental shop (where you can find ski and snowboard packages) and Parallel Mountain Sports, which sells everything you could possibly need for your Lake Tahoe ski vacation.
