So here we are, entering September, and what are we thinking of? Not the hikes still on our list, or the sun bathing to be had, but winter. As the ski and snowboard movie premiere dates are announced and the season down in the southern hemisphere is coming to a close, who can help it?
What has got us stoked for this upcoming season is phase two of the Renaissance. Here is what you have to look forward to...
With the new installation of a high-speed six-pack chair, Big Blue Express, this means you will be able to access Shirley Lake, Solitude and Granite Chief chairs with ease. For first-timers and beginners it means better terrain to make your first turns or perfect them. Big Blue will start at the base of where the previous High Camp chair began and will extend to the top of where the old Links chair was. Links will be removed and replaced with a triple chair, to be known as Mountain Meadow, which will extend to the top of the ridgeline where Solitude and Silverado chairs meet. This will provide a better fall line for beginner skiers and riders.

Big Blue Express, combined with our $3 million investment into our snowmaking system, will provide better travel and flow on the upper mountain. Regardless of what Mother Nature throws our way- we want to be prepared. That is why we have made a commitment to enhancing and bettering our snow surface. This summer we have started to upgrade our snowmaking system, at Squaw and Alpine, to become fully automated and equipped with high efficiency guns, all of which will be ready for when cold temps hit our valley.

The classic Olympic Plaza Bar will undergo a facelift that will pay tribute to Squaw’s Olympic heritage. Think mountain contemporary for an atmosphere with rustic furniture and giant murals celebrating the 1960 Olympics. Pair this with a killer menu that features flatbread pizzas and artisan meat and cheese platters- and you’ve got the perfect place to hang after a day on the hill. Look out for our events to be held in this revamped venue throughout the season!

New Ski & Snowboard Retail Locations in the village will provide the latest in hard and soft goods. The Parallel Sport Shop will offer outerwear and street wear that all focus on mountain adventure. The Ledge will be designed with snowboarders in mind and will offer all the fundamentals- including brands both big and up-and-coming.

For all of you park riders, you can look forward to Tahoe’s only mile long terrain park at Alpine. The park will run from Terry’s Return to Dancefloor, and will be designed by Snow Park Technologies (SPT) who creates the parks and pipes for the Dew Tour and Winter X Games.

We’re also getting fired up about the season with the Labor Day Sale in the Village, offering new gear at insane discounts (up to 80%!). The deals are as good as pro-pricing. Hurry, though, the sale ends September 3. And, if you spend $200 or more, you can get early season Tahoe Super Pass rates.
