Dry Weather Returns with Cold Nights for Snow Making /

Submitted by ba November 24, 2013 - 8:12am Weather

Over the past 48 hours not too many changes to the forecast.  The trend on the forecast models is further West down the coast with the storm on Thanksgiving Day.  That should keep any precip chances just to our West.  Yesterday some model runs still showed the storm coming close enough for some light snowfall but they have now trended further West in line with the other forecast models.

As we head into December the long-range models have been showing a blocking high pressure setting up over Alaska.  That would drive cold air down into the West from Canada.  It would also mean storms coming under the block could be pushed further South down the West Coast.  Most of the forecast model runs show light snow around the 3rd-5th of December as a cold trough pushes down into the Western U.S.  They then show the possibility of stronger storms coming under the block in the Pacific and into the West Coast around the 8th.

This is all 10+ days away so definitely subject to change.  The forecast models do tend to become more accurate in the long-range the closer we get towards Winter.  For now we will have to depend on snow making.

Stay tuned...BA
