5 Reasons Why You Have to be at Squaw & Alpine this weekend! /

Submitted by jmegnin April 9, 2014 - 11:40am General
  1. Spring conditions are awesome!
We always say follow the sun, and for good reason. Finding the spring “corn” harvest can be as good as skiing powder. Corn is the type of snow that forms during the spring freeze/thaw cycle. The type of snow that this creates is buttery smooth and creates what some call “hero” snow making you into the best skier you’ve always dreamed you could be.

Here’s a sample itinerary: Start by heading up the mountain on the Funitel. Head over to Siberia for a few hot laps on the amazing steep groomer before conditions soften up. Then you can start harvesting – Head up Headwall and grab a lap on Sun Bowl finding your way to The Bullet. Head down to KT-22 and shuck some more corn on the West Face. 2,000 feet of pure bliss! After that try to find the north facing slopes that stayed cold in the morning. They’ll just be getting good.

  2. It’s a dress up weekend- All-American theme!
There’s nothing more American than wrapping yourself in Old-Glory (star spangled shorts anyone?). When you dress up this weekend in an All-American theme you can find yourself saving a few greenbacks. Take those savings and head up to the Umbrella Bar at High Camp for a refreshing beverage. It’s like hanging at the beach, but at 8,200 feet!

  3. Cushing Crossing
Nothing says spring at Squaw Valley quite like the annual Cushing Crossing. This event is one of the only (if not THE only) pond skimming event that crosses a natural pond. Not to mention we’ve been doing it for 24 years now. The competitors are serious and the variety of costumes is something that is only rivaled during Halloween. Not only can you catch amazing thrills and spills, but you’ll also see professional skiers and riders like Olympian Travis Ganong, snowboarder God Jeremy Jones among other incognito shredders all vying for the glory of a Cushing Crossing champion.

  4. Annual Passholder Party
Every year we give thanks to our best guests by throwing a party. This year is no exception. The party this Saturday will be at Squaw on the KT Base Bar. Not only can passholders grab a discounted beverage while watching the Cushing Crossing, they can also grab a super discounted meal created by our amazing chefs. We’ve hired a perfect spring time band, The Nibblers to play the afternoon away. This party is a classic spring time shindig and one not to miss if you’ve got a 2013-14 or a 2014-15 season pass.

  5. Snow Golf
Combine the leisure of golf with the fun of spring skiing. Alpine Meadows has been hosting this golf tournament for decades and this year is no exception. Grab an iron and get ready to play nine holes of the most majestic mountain course ever created. This course is only available one day a year so don’t miss out.
