We picked up 5 more inches as of this morning. That brings the 3 day total to 21 inches and the 6 day total to 25 inches.
The low pressure responsible for the snow showers is moving through Southern CA today. Another weak low will be moving through Northern CA. That may spark off some more snow showers later today into tonight. We could see another 1-3 inches on the mountain by Saturday morning.
The ridge will be building in off the coast pretty quickly on Sunday. The pattern we were talking about earlier in the week that could bring lots of precip is going to develop, but will stay to our North. The setup is just a bit too far West over the Pacific. Low pressure in the Northeast Pacific will be pulling moisture from low pressure North of Hawaii and streaming it into the Pacific NW, between the ridge over the Aleutians and off the CA coast. It tries to push South next week but the ridge wins out.
Being on the Southern side of the strong jet a lot of warm air is going to pump up over CA. Highs will be in the 50's most of the week. The pattern will shift by the end of next week pushing the jet stream further South into CA by next weekend.
Forecast models are still up in the air about how much moisture will still be getting pulled in from across the Pacific. We may start with some higher snow levels next weekend and then falling as the colder air pushes South. We could see light or heavy amounts of precip depending on how much moisture is still feeding into the jet stream under the ridge off the coast.
Looking long-range into week 2 we may see a colder Northwest flow develop with the potential for some colder systems. Overall the pattern should remain fairly active through the month. We just got decent snow and we could get more after a break this week. BA
