Up to 2 Feet of Snow Expected Saturday /

Submitted by ba March 28, 2014 - 10:13am Weather

The precip is pushing into Northern CA this morning and it looks like it could reach us after midnight.  Then heavy snow is expected through day on Saturday.  Snow showers should continue Saturday night.  The snow levels look to drop to 6000 ft. pretty quickly so the rain should be brief at base level Saturday morning.  If that works out we could see up to a foot at the base by Sunday morning and 1-2 feet of snow on the mountain.

Snow showers may linger through Sunday before we see a break Sunday night into Monday morning ahead of the next storm.  There will be cold air in place Sunday behind the cold front and the next storm is the coldest this week.  Snow levels start below base level as the precip pushes in Monday afternoon.  The center of low pressure moves inland over Northern CA Tuesday keeping the snow going.  Most of the model runs show several more inches possible at the base with this storm, and up to a foot on the mountain by Wednesday morning.  Some model runs show double that on this morning's runs.  I think we could see higher amounts especially with the colder air.  So we will have to take a closer look after we get through the storm tomorrow.

We should see a break Wednesday into Thursday morning before another system pushes in later Thursday into Friday.  The question with this one is how far South it digs.  Right now it looks like we could see several more inches of snow.  Then the forecast models split with some showing one last storm next weekend and others showing the drying pattern beginning by next weekend.

There is pretty good agreement among the models and their ensemble runs that we see the ridge build along the West Coast with a break in the storms for a few days starting next Sunday.  Then they suggest we could see some more unsettled weather around the 9th-10th.  We have plenty of snow to get through over the next week while we get a clearer picture of the long-range.

Stay tuned....BA
